Strichen 132/33kV Substation

Grid Transformer Upgrade and Remote End Intertripping Project

The Strichen 132/33kV substation is located approximately 30miles north of Aberdeen and is fed from Fraserburgh Substation by two 132kV circuits teed with St. Fergus.
Due to planned increased system demand, SHET now intend to replace the two existing 132/33kV 45MVA transformer with 90MVA units and in addition, provide three way intertripping between Strichen, St Fergus and Fraserburgh.
Gridpower is responsible for design of the new HV & LV busbar connections and for the new three ended intertripping schemes. It will then take on the role of principal contractor on site and manage the complete site works including:

  • Supervision of the dismantling and removal of the two existing 45MVA transformers
  • Supervision of the installation of the two 90MVA transformers
  • Removal of busbar connections and reinstatement with upgraded copper busbar
  • Installation of additional 33kV cables
  • Installation of new bay marshalling kiosks and associated multicore cables
  • Installation and commissioning of new intertripping equipment at Strichen and two remote sites
  • Overall commissioning of both new transformers
